A new 8 × 8 host matrix and analogue expansion interface for scalable professional audio installations

Ecler expands the EclerPLEX ecosystem with VIVO-X8, a new host matrix featuring eight analogue audio inputs and eight analogue audio outputs, and BIO-X8, an expansion interface that adds a further eight analogue inputs and eight analogue outputs.

The two devices provide system integrators with a modular approach to professional audio processing and control. A project can begin with the native 8 × 8 analogue configuration of VIVO-X8 and later grow to as many as 24 analogue inputs and 24 analogue outputs by connecting two BIO Series expansion units.

VIVO-X8: the host at the centre of an EclerPLEX system

VIVO-X8 is an EclerPLEX host matrix designed to manage audio processing, system control and user interaction within a single platform.

Its eight balanced MIC/LINE inputs include individually selectable +48 V phantom power, while its eight balanced LINE outputs allow it to operate as a complete 8 × 8 analogue audio matrix without requiring additional hardware.

The unit also includes:

  • Four GPI control ports

  • Two X-link expansion ports

  • Two Ethernet control ports

  • One RS-232 control port

  • A microSD card slot

  • A 1.9-inch colour TFT display

Each X-link port supports one BIO Series expansion unit, allowing up to two expanders to be connected to a single VIVO-X8.

Scalable analogue I/O, without replacing the host processor

A VIVO-X8 system can be expanded progressively according to the requirements of the installation.

The standard configuration provides:

  • 8 analogue MIC/LINE inputs

  • 8 analogue LINE outputs

Adding one BIO-X8 increases the system to:

  • 16 analogue inputs

  • 16 analogue outputs

Adding two BIO-X8 units increases it to:

  • 24 analogue inputs

  • 24 analogue outputs

This modular architecture allows integrators to specify the I/O required at the start of a project while retaining a clear expansion path for future zones, sources or system changes.

Although VIVO-X8 supports an internal matrix structure of up to 32 × 32, its maximum physical analogue I/O configuration with two BIO-X8 units is 24 inputs and 24 outputs.

BIO-X8: eight additional inputs and outputs through X-link

BIO-X8 is an analogue audio I/O expansion interface for compatible VIVO host units.

Each unit adds:

  • Eight balanced MIC/LINE analogue inputs

  • Individually selectable +48 V phantom power per input

  • Eight balanced LINE analogue outputs

BIO-X8 connects locally to the host through X-link using the supplied one-metre Ecler-certified cable. The expansion unit does not operate independently and requires a compatible VIVO host device.

This direct connection keeps the expanded system within the same EclerPLEX workspace and processing environment, rather than treating the additional inputs and outputs as a separate device platform.

Flexible DSP processing and project architecture

VIVO-X8 incorporates the EclerPLEX application and a flexible DSP structure that allows integrators to allocate processing resources according to the needs of each project.

Within an EclerPLEX Workspace, users can create and run multiple projects simultaneously, define custom matrix sizes and configure processing, routing, events, calendars and presets. The host can also serve customised User Control Panels for day-to-day operation by end users.

This architecture is particularly useful in installations where different areas or operational teams need separate interfaces while remaining part of the same managed system.

Built-in playback, automation and control

VIVO-X8 includes four internal software audio players and a microSD card slot for local audio files. According to the official documentation, the players can be used for applications such as background music and voice messages, with playlist management and calendar-based automation.

The embedded EclerPLEX environment also provides:

  • Custom User Control Panel creation and management

  • Event and calendar programming

  • Preset management

  • Scripting for automation and control

  • Two internal audio signal generators

  • Native EclerCLOUD monitoring and control

  • Automatic update functionality

Some software functions may be introduced progressively through firmware updates, as indicated in the official product documentation.

Integration with third-party control systems

For external system control, VIVO-X8 offers Ethernet, RS-232 and GPI connectivity.

Its RS-232 port supports communication through Ecler’s TP-NET protocol, allowing compatible third-party devices to read or modify supported system parameters. The four GPI ports can be assigned to functions such as volume control, preset selection or playlist activation.

This makes VIVO-X8 suitable for projects that combine EclerPLEX with wall controllers, building control systems or other AV control platforms.

Designed for professional multizone audio applications

VIVO-X8 and BIO-X8 are intended for fixed installations where audio routing, DSP processing, user control and future system expansion need to be managed from a common platform.

Typical applications include:

  • Hospitality venues

  • Corporate buildings

  • Retail environments

  • Sports and wellness facilities

  • Education spaces

  • Cultural and public venues

  • Multizone background music and paging systems

The combination of an independent 8 × 8 host matrix and modular analogue expansion makes the system suitable both for projects with clearly defined initial requirements and for installations expected to evolve over time.

A new expansion path for EclerPLEX

The launch of VIVO-X8 and BIO-X8 broadens the range of EclerPLEX system configurations available to integrators.

VIVO-X8 provides the processing, software and control environment, while BIO-X8 adds analogue audio capacity when the project requires it. Together, they allow systems to grow from 8 × 8 to 24 × 24 analogue I/O without replacing the original host or moving to a different programming platform.
